Providing technical (Geo)Advice on infrastructure analysis and modeling throughout North America.

GeoAdvice is working on some very exciting projects. Many of these projects include spearheading important developments for Cities. All are helping to make a difference in their communities. Here are a few of the projects currently underway. If you have a query about a specific project, please contact GeoAdvice.

The following showcases some of our "Featured Projects."

GeoAdvice provided a 2-day customized training seminar for the City of Toronto (Toronto Water), the Town of Markham and the Region of Peel in Toronto, ON.

The training was a collaborative effort between municipalities held in Toronto in March 2007. The customized training workshop provided an in-depth review of hydraulic network modeling and included topics such as GIS integration, model calibration, demand allocation, advanced InfoWater tools and commands (MWH Soft, Pasadena, CA), and modeling configurations such as variable speed pumps and ground water wells. The training was very well attended and received great feedback from participants as shown below.

"We enjoyed your training a lot." Akter Hossain, M.Eng., P.Eng. - Town of Markham , ON.

"It was really nice and informative to attend your training sessions." Kishan Ramkhelawon - City of Toronto, ON.

"I want to thank you for your time and all your effort in putting on another excellent and thoroughly enjoyable training course. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the new techniques I learned on our updated model." Martin Pendlebury, P.Eng. - Region of Peel, ON

"Dr. de Schaetzen is an excellent trainer and very knowledgeable hydraulic modeler. I really enjoyed the training. I am excited to use some of the new features and tricks that I learned during the training." Imran Motala, M.Eng., P.Eng. - Region of Peel, ON

GeoAdvice selected to perform hydraulic network modeling assessment and develop network upgrade solutions for the City of Chilliwack, BC

The City of Chilliwack, BC selected GeoAdvice to perform a hydraulic network modeling analysis to assess the existing and future storage capacities and pumping capabilities of the Chilliwack Mountain area water system. Development in the Chilliwack Mountain area will be significant in the next 15 years. The purpose of this project was to determine whether the current storage and pumping capacities of the Chilliwack Mountain water system will be able to support these new developments. The first step was to determine the future population from data given by the City. The next step was to allocate projected future demands in the model and run hydraulic and fire flow simulation analyses to determine if any deficiencies in the system. Finally, infrastructure upgrade strategies were developed and modeled to determine the most cost-effective way to eliminate the deficiencies in the Chilliwack Mountain water system over the next 15 years.

GeoAdvice delivers a 4-day modeling training to the Regional Municipality of York, ON.

GeoAdvice conducted a 4-day hydraulic network modeling training for the Regional Municipality of York, ON. The seminar was delivered at the Regional Municipality of York's office and was well attended by staff from different groups including the Planning and Transportation and Works Departments. Some of the topics covered included:

  • Uses of water distribution hydraulic models
  • Running a hydraulic simulation
  • Running a fire flow simulation
  • Running a water quality simulation
  • Running a pump energy management simulation
  • Advanced modeling configurations
  • GIS Integration and obstacles when converting GIS data
  • Water distribution systems optimization

CEUs credits were awarded to all attendees. CEUs are recognized internationally and are convertible to professional development hours (PDHs). One CEU is equal to ten PDHs.

GeoAdvice has been selected by the City of Abbotsford, BC to complete fire flow assessments for proposed land developments.

The City of Abbotsford has selected GeoAdvice, Inc. to serve as the hydraulic network modeling consultant for their water distribution system.

The City's water system supplies a population of 150,000 from two water treatment plants and several groundwater wells. In total, over 3,000 pipes (approx. 800 km ranging in diameter from 25 mm to 1,400 mm), 46 pumps, 48 valves, 15 reservoirs, and 16 elevated tanks are included in the H2OMAP Water hydraulic network model.

The objective of this project is to review, validate and prioritize proposed land development applications including proposed upgrades which will improve fire flow capabilities of the Abbotsford water system.

GeoAdvice uses the City water distribution system model to ensure adequate levels of fire protection are maintained throughout the system.

This project demonstrates that a complex hydraulic network model can be used as a practical tool for the optimal planning of network upgrades to meet fire flow requirements.
